Father's Day Competition 2010

Please make sure to become a "liker" of the Andrea Drake Photography facebook page,
to get your first point for this competition before you enter.

The winner will be announced there on Sunday, 15.August 2010,10am, as well as on this blog.

If you use my brand new "Reviews" tab on facebook to leave a comment about my work, you will get an extra chance to win :-) !

Get a friend to become a "liker" on my facebook page, and you'll get another point !

I will also give 3 extra points to the 5 best comments about why the dad in your family is special.

And if you go the extra mile and put it in a poem, there's another 1-3* points !! :-)

All competitors with the highest score will go in the draw for this prize - if there is one entry with more points than any other, they will be the instant winner.

The session must be held on Saturday, 21.8.2010 from 9-10 am ( or alternatively during the week of 16.-20.8.), so I can get your photos done & delivered  in time for Father's day. Please don't enter if you can't make it that day/week.

The competition is for an outdoor session at a location of your choice in/around Picton, Rarangi, Blenheim or Renwick. Should it be too cold or rainy on the day, we will have to find a spot indoors ( or reschedule if during the week...).

The session is for members of one family, and can include mum and any children that belong to the family, or adult children who would like to give their dad a special present.

Entries close Saturday, 14.8. at midnight.

HAVE FUN !! :-)

* 13.8.2010: Please note that I will give points from 1-3 for poems now, as people are getting into sending short and sweet ones :-) , as well as longer poems with a lot of thought and creativity gone into them. I just think it's fair this way, don't you ?!

And  as you know the competition has been extended and now closes at midnight, Saturday 14.8.2010 !

  2. Two special wee blessings we managed to create
They're Charlie & Anika, they sure are great
But one special role that developed by fate
Is a fantastic Dad, no one can ever debate
Malc plays, reads, washes and feeds
He's there for them both what ever their needs
So a lovely new photo of the kids and me
To sit on his desk for him to see
A photo of course taken by Andrea Drake
For Fathers Day, would be the icing on the cake.

  3. Even though I am just 4 months old
when it comes to my Dad I don't need to be told
how lucky I am and will always be
I see in his face how much he loves me.
When he comes home from work is my favourite time of day,
we go see the animals and feed them some hay.
He sings me a song and rocks me to sleep
then quietly out of the room he will creep.
He's always so keen to help out my mummy
he was the same when I was in her tummy.
    He looks after me
    so she can cook tea,
he even changes the odd nappy.!!!
I know what would make him so happy
to suprise him with some photos of me :)
So even though I am just four months old,
my Dad is the best I don't need to be told..
    Love Autumn (and mum)

  5. Niamh's and Alexander's Dad is call Col
And to be sure he is a great guy on the whole,
He laughs and he loves those children so much
With tickles and smiles, jokes and the such.

With Allanah he does his best to be a great Dad
And to lift up their spirits whenever the're sad
With his knowledge of soil and New Castle United
He spins stories and yarns to keep them delighted

To Col may you have an awesome Fathers Day
I wish you the best from so far away.
I hope you are spoilt with breakfast in bed,
But knowing your children you'll be up early instead!

Happy Fathers Day Col, Love Sarah and Good Luck Allanah! xx

  6. Kim Humble (Beccs Elsmore Mum)August 11, 2010 at 12:15 PM

    It's a wonderful thing as a mother
to no longer worry and stress,
when a daughter finds a lovely fella
who treats her like a princess.

    Jason Elsmore is that guy,
and an awesome Daddy he is as well,
As a result they have three beautiful children,
    as Andrea's stunning pictures tell.

Avie and Ossy and Baxter adore their Daddy,
    there's certainly no doubting that.
He feeds them and bathes them, and reads to them,
    (including to Lulu, the cat!)

I watch with pride as Beccs and Jas
bring up their children so fine
and it's with relief that I can say
that I've completed this before Andrea's deadline!!

Jason is a wonderful husband, Dad, and son-in-law, and I'm his #1 fan. lol xx

  8. From Allanah's mum. This poem is for Allanah's dad, who passed on in 2007.

    DAD REFLECTED

    Where are you Dad?
    Oh there you are
    A presence by my side
    Just like you were
    Time and again
    On you I could rely

    Where are you Dad?
    I hear your voice
    Faint but somehow near
    Your funny laugh
    I remember well -
My guide, my friend so dear

    Where are you Dad?
    I want to wish you
    Such a happy day
    Be near us now
    Hover there
Still guide us on our way

    FOR THOSE WHO UNDERSTAND
    By Mike McGee

    Where lazy bush mists
    ebb and flow.
    Where cool winds
    through the valleys blow.
    Where I can sit
    beside the glow
    of campfires burning coals
    and know.
That as I watch the billy boil,
    there’s not a thing that’s here,
    can spoil.
    that special feeling,
    in the haze,
    of Manuka smoke
    that curls and sways
    and wafts on high,
    on gentle breeze,
    above my camp,
    here in the trees.
    Just out of mighty
    rivers reach,
    beneath the spreading arms
    of beech,
    that lets the sunlight
    filter through,
    with shafts
    of golden yellow hue.
    This special place,
    of granted wish,
    to drop a deer
    or catch a fish.
    The pride of shot,
    the thrilling feel,
    or oft heard whirr
    of spinning reel.
    Deep pools with ripples
    passing by.
    Where wondrous mountain trout
    can lie
    and rise at evening,
    to the fly
    But oft the thrill
    of catch deny,
    to those who would
    presume to try.
    Where day’s exciting
    journey ends,
as mantle of the night descends.
Where to sit beside the fire
    with friends.
    A special feeling it engends.
    And then in flickering,
    fireside glow.
    To pen a poem,
    for those who know.
    Or recite a line,
    a thought, a strand.
    For ears of those,
    who understand.

  22. Steve MacDougall August 12 at 11:57pm My name is John, I'm a father of four. The thing about me is... I'm not here anymore. I passed some years back with two sudden strokes, with a snap of the fingers..'That's all folks'...
Although I was taken before my time, whisked away when I was in my prime, I left a gift that keeps on giving, a daughter that knows the true meaning of living.
I watch her and smile and feel only pride, my baby 'elephant' her heart open wide. That's an in joke between her mum and me, a nic name she got when she was wee.... A grin she wore all over the place..I see that smile on Anika's face.
To share this smile is a gift indeed. Andrea Drake understands this need.

  23. I couldn't be with you for most of your life
but I watch with pride, this mother and wife
    With Malc as their father
    they can't go wrong
    he's guiding them well
with a love oh so strong
    The children are stubborn
    like no other
but they get THAT trait from YOUR Mother

For Trina from her Dad (R.I.P 30.10.1984) and Mum.

  25. Who would’ve thought from one Father’s Day promotion
That it could have stirred up so much emotion

Thinking of the Dads, ones passed over or still here
They are all so so loved, that is obviously quite clear

For a man who gets to play this special part
Will forever be in his childs heart

So to all of the Dads, without further delay
Wishing you all a happy Father’s Day!

    Trina Russell.

  26. To Trina, Malc and their family
A poem I wrote by myself you see.
To help Trina win her fantastic wish
To give to Malc this prize as his fathers day gift.

This Family should win and this is why,
They love helping others without even a try.
We don't really know this couple apart thats why this is written for them both from the heart.

They are fantastic friends so dear and so close,
This is why they're deserving to win the most!!
